ZiggSend vs Quick Share · Head to head

ZiggSend vs Quick Share

Quick Share is Android’s answer to AirDrop, and on the right phone and PC it is good. It has no Mac or iPhone app: some recent Androids (Pixels first) reach iPhone and Mac through AirDrop, and Quick Share can also send them a QR-code link through Google’s cloud.

What it does well

  • Built into Android
  • Quick Share for Windows exists
  • Free, originals preserved

Where it stops

  • No Mac app
  • To iPhone and Mac: AirDrop from some recent Androids (Pixels first), or a QR-code link through Google’s cloud (up to 10 GB every 24 hours)
  • Windows pairing depends on the PC’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi hardware

When to use which

Android to a Windows PC that pairs cleanly: Quick Share is fine. Android to Mac, Android to iPhone, or anything you need verified: ZiggSend.

Measured, not promised. 22 GB in 184 files with 0 failures from an Android to a Mac over a USB 2 cable (about 28 MB/s); an 806 MB video over home Wi-Fi in 46 s; up to 49.7 MB/s over Wi-Fi from a Mac to an iPhone. Every file is checked against the original on arrival. How we measure.

Free forever with 1 phone. Pro when you need it.

The phone apps are free. So is the computer app, with one paired phone. Pro — several phones, full history, automatic folders, up to 3 computers — is $39 a year, or $19 once for the first 1,000 founders.

Questions people actually ask

Is there a Quick Share for Mac?

There is no Quick Share app for Mac. Some recent Androids (Pixels first) can hand files to a Mac through AirDrop, and Quick Share can send a QR-code link through Google’s cloud; a direct transfer from most Androids is not possible. Our guide explains the alternatives.

Why does Quick Share for Windows not find my phone?

It needs Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on on the PC, with the phone within about 5 m; many desktops have no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. ZiggSend only needs the same Wi-Fi on the phone and the PC.

Can ZiggSend use the cable?

Yes, from Android to the Mac: the Mac app’s assistant sets it up once.

How do I use Quick Share, and where does it not work?

Android: share → Quick Share → pick the device; Windows: install “Quick Share for Windows” from Google (signing in is optional and unlocks all options), and the PC appears on the phone if it has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on. There is no Quick Share app for Mac or for iPhone; some recent Androids (Pixels first) hand files to them through AirDrop, and Quick Share can send them a QR-code link through Google’s cloud (up to 10 GB every 24 hours). For any Android, ZiggSend.

What is the best app for this — and is it free?

Depends on what “best” means to you. For casual sharing, LocalSend (free, open source, and since version 1.18 with a SHA-256 check on every file) is honest and good. For a camera roll, a client’s footage or anything you cannot afford to lose, ZiggSend: originals only, no size limit, resume, a check of the whole file already on disk, and each file’s fingerprint in the history for you to check. The phone app is free; the computer app is free with one phone, and Pro (several phones, full history, automatic folders, up to 3 computers) is optional — see pricing.
